Group company: Clearstream Banking Luxembourg Department: Business Management Function: Employee Main responsibility: Network Management/International Markets Working for the Group since February 2006 Four questions for Marc Robert-Nicoud Please give a brief outline of your education and career to date. I graduated from college with a major in Commerce and a minor in Liberal Arts. I went on to study law at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and McGill University in Canada. Following my admission to the Quebec and New York bars, I started practicing with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. Before joining Clearstream’s legal department, I served as a Legal Officer with the Swiss Federal Banking Commission. More recently, I was offered the chance to join the Business Development Department, thereby migrating from a legal role to a business one. In what positive respect does Deutsche Börse Group set itself apart from other companies? Clearstream pays considerable attention to developing people in a way that respects differences and acknowledges individual strengths. Perhaps because it is a multicultural environment, Clearstream’s corporate culture promotes diversity while achieving consensus over vision and purpose. I find the result to be an attractive combination: an informal but highly efficient workplace. What made you decide on Deutsche Börse Group as an employer in the end? It’s the sort of decision that you have to be able to renew every day. In my case, the decisive factor was the support of the management to pursue a career path of my own design. From day one, I felt that by clearly setting out my professional objectives I would get the guidance and support required to achieve them. Having expressed my interest to move into a business role, it was only a matter of time before a suitable position was offered in an area where I could contribute my legal expertise and acquire valuable business knowledge. How would you describe the working atmosphere at Deutsche Börse Group? In my experience, Clearstream is the perfect environment if you enjoy being challenged. The learning curve is as steep as you are willing to make it and the freedom to innovate is boundless. A culture of direct and informal contacts promotes exchanges of ideas between people of different background, experience and seniority. As an expat, Clearstream is more than an employer – it is also the place where I met most of the people I know in Luxembourg. While I would not go as far as calling it a family, the Clearstream crowd has a way of making people feel truly welcome. |
