The award ceremony will take place on 11 May 2005 at The Photographers’ Gallery in London. "We are very pleased to be the new title sponsor of the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize," said Axel Nawrath, Managing Director of Deutsche Börse Group. "The Photographers’ Gallery has succeeded in bringing the most important and most interesting representatives of the current European photographic scene together for this year’s Photography Prize. The number and quality of nominations truly reflects the diversity of the medium as well as the wide spectrum of photographic exhibitions and publications in Europe last year." The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize aims to reward a living photographer, of any nationality, who has made the most significant contribution to the medium of photography during the past year. The shortlisted photographers, selected by a Jury, were nominated for a significant exhibition or publication that took place in Europe between 1 November 2003 and 31 October 2004. These nominations have been made by an Academy representing photographic institutions throughout Europe and invited by The Photographers’ Gallery. The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize takes the place of the Citigroup Photography Prize as the annual photography prize at The Photographers’ Gallery.
