Typically defined as the body responsible for holding and transferring physical or dematerialized securities, Clearstream provides central securities depository (CSD) services to the German and Luxembourg domestic markets.

Clearstream has developed the CASCADE platform to meet the unique requirements of the German domestic market. Working closely with the Market Rules Committee, Deutsche Bundesbank and twelve key German financial institutions, Clearstream has also developed a new German settlement model.

In Luxembourg Clearstream operates LuxClear, providing all the securities services required to link the Central Bank of Luxembourg to both Luxembourg-domiciled and foreign banks.
