Settlement & Custody

中文信息

The settlement of market transactions and the custody of securities are Clearstream’s core businesses. As a provider of settlement services, Clearstream ensures that cash and securities are promptly and efficiently delivered between parties after trading. As custodian, Clearstream is responsible for the management, safekeeping and administration of the securities deposited by its customers.

Clearstream’s innovative settlement engine, the Creation Platform, is the means to cost-effective, low-risk settlement of financial transactions. This single IT system, providing a central entry point for a variety of markets, offers fully automated overnight and daytime processing.

Settlement services

After a trade, both buyer and seller must exchange payment for securities in order to finalise the transaction. During this final exchange called settlement, buyer and seller details are matched, ownership of the security reassigned, and payment made.

To trigger this process, Clearstream customers send in their instructions and then receive reports from easy-to-use connectivity tools. Cash and securities instructions are validated (with any data-entry errors reported back to the customer immediately), matched, checked for provision and released for settlement across the Creation Platform. This secure and high-performance straight-through transaction process ensures efficient, virtually risk-free settlement.

Custody services

Clearstream custody services are available to customers for securities held by Clearstream and include the handling of new issues, income and redemptions as well as securities events. The service range is complemented by tax reporting services. In its handling of new issues, Clearstream offers a full range of services for eligibility assessment, issuance and distribution of new issues including international and more than 40 domestic markets. It is also the official agency for calculating International Securities Identification Numbers (ISIN) for international securities and domestic Luxembourg issues.
