In the field of Social Affairs we take our responsibilities as an employer very seriously by supporting social and welfare institutions at the main locations of Deutsche Börse Group, as well as regions in need of assistance worldwide. Overall social conditions and the relationship between the state, business and society are in a process of change. The social commitment of companies and their contribution to solving social problems is becoming ever more important. We are convinced that our commitment to the common good is a necessary complement to state-provided support. In this regard, our commitment goes beyond traditional donations, as we also give hands-on support to projects by literally rolling up our shirt sleeves and giving a hand or assisting with our know-how. Social activities at our Luxembourg headquarters are selected and undertaken in collaboration with the Charity Committee, a long-standing group of Luxembourg employees committed to social causes. Focus Our emphasis is on providing financial support for projects concerned with long-term support for education/training as well as for ill or socially disadvantaged young people. We wish to motivate our employees to actively assume social responsibilities. This is why as a corporate citizen we support various projects in the field of youth work at our main locations. Projects For example, we participate in the “Engage Project” launched by members of the Frankfurt ENGAGE Group (Citigroup Corporate & Investment Bank, Deutsche Börse Group, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Linklaters). Since 2005 ENGAGE job application training has helped young people poised between school and entering the job market. It seeks to offer support in solving two pressing problems young people face in Frankfurt: the integration of youngsters with a migration background and youth unemployment. The project is open to pupils attending vocational schools in the process of completing their basic vocational training year (BVT). Job application training consists of two modules in which volunteers from the participating companies help the pupils in one-on-one sessions to acquire practical skills for the highly competitive job market: creating an application folder and the simulation of a job interview under conditions that are as realistic as possible – in the firm’s own offices. Likewise, “Social Day” is now a fixed item on the Group’s corporate citizenship agenda. As one of the main partners active in “Social Day“ our Group staff work for a day in various childcare and youth centers in Frankfurt and Luxembourg, carrying out urgently needed work such as redecorating. The Social Day also takes place in Luxembourg. In 2006 employees in Luxembourg came up with the idea of doing something along the lines of the Frankfurt Social Day. Each year they organize and carry out a Social Day under their own initiative. In collaboration with the Frankfurter Kinderbüro (Frankfurt Children’s Association), the Group supports the project “Neu hier” (New Here). All babies born in Frankfurt receive a welcome package containing information brochures, Yellow Pages for Families, a CD of children’s songs produced by Frankfurt musicians, a stretchsuit from the city’s football club, Eintracht Frankfurt, and a welcome book from the City of Frankfurt as a reminder of their city of birth. The aim is to communicate the idea of equal opportunities for all children and families in Frankfurt.
