DAX family

The index world: DAX family

Representing investment strategies in transparent, rule-based and cost-efficient ways

The blue chip index DAX® is probably Deutsche Börse's best-known product. However, significantly fewer people know that DAX is also a registered trademark of Deutsche Börse and that the index family has been continuously extended and further developed ever since the DAX launch in 1988.

DAX – the main indicators for the German stock market

Deutsche Börse operates and calculates four German indices of global significance: DAX, MDAX®, SDAX® and TecDAX®. These indices provide transparency and a clear structure for the German market. In addition, they serve – like many of our index products – as attractive basis products for derivative and passive financial instruments. DAX is the world’s third-largest derivatives index.

DAX

Comprises the 30 largest and most actively traded companies, which are listed on the Frankfurter Wertpapierbörse (FWB®, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange) in the prime standard segment.

MDAX

Comprises the 50 largest and most actively traded companies from classic sectors in the prime standard segment that rank below the DAX-listed stocks.

SDAX

Comprises the 50 largest and most actively traded companies from classic sectors in the prime standard segment that rank below the MDAX-listed stocks.

TecDAX

Comprises the 30 largest and most actively traded technology sector companies in the prime standard segment that rank below the DAX-listed stocks.

DAXplus – the strategy indices

Strategy indices do not only reflect the average value development of different basis stocks, but also allow for a systematic and transparent implementation of investment strategies. Each of the index products from the DAXplus® family reflects an acknowledged or innovative investment strategy – either with the objective to outperform the overall market as a benchmark or to offer investors the best possible risk/return profile for their respective investment.

DAXglobal – trading successfully around the world

Index products from the DAXglobal® family provide investors with the opportunity to trade numerous international markets and topics in transparent, rule-based and cost-efficient ways. The indices reflect special regions with interesting growth rates, so-called “Emerging Markets”, or topics of particular interest such as alternative renewable energies, and make them transparent in accordance with the tried and tested quality criteria of Deutsche Börse.

On the whole, Group Deutsche Börse operates and calculates around 11,000 indices. STOXX® markets the STOXX and DAX index families.
