IW delegation visits the FinTech Hub

IW Director Michael Hüther at the FinTech Hub

“I’ve only seen one printer on the premises and it wasn’t even switched on,” remarked a somewhat astonished visitor at the Deutsche Börse FinTech Hub in Frankfurt/Main. Actually, there are two printers, came the reponse, but new ink cartridges only need to be re-stocked “once in a blue moon”. However, every room is equipped with its own wifi repeater.

You realize one thing right away. At the FinTech Hub, it is not only the business models of the start-ups which are digital; the entire location in which they operate is as well. This location was visited yesterday by a seven-person delegation from the Cologne Institute for Economic Research (IW). Michael Hüther, director of the IW, and his colleagues had travelled to Frankfurt to familiarise themselves with the way in which the FinTech Hub operates and to learn more about technical requirements for digital business models and fintech’s market potential.

Eric Leupold, Head of Pre-IPO & Capital Markets, welcomed the guests, introducing Deutsche Börse Venture Network and the FinTech Hub, and showed the visitors around the premises at the Sandweg location. Afterwards, the four FinTech Hub start-ups presented their own businesses: CASHLINK, dwins, Fintura und savedroid. After their presentations, the founders stayed for a Q&A session, answering the delegation’s questions on their business models, funding rounds and plans for the future.
