Seven sentences about the new index rules

  1. Many people had anxiously anticipated 5 September: brokers, journalists, companies and the general public. On this day, Deutsche Börse announced the new composition of the four selection indices: DAX, TecDAX, MDAX and SDAX.
  2. It is the biggest change of the last two decades as new rules for the MDAX, SDAX and TecDAX indices will become effective from 24 September.
  3. First change: DAX companies that are assigned to technology sectors can now also be included in the TecDAX index. The TecDAX index continues to consist of 30 constituents.
  4. Second change: Tech companies can also be included in the MDAX or SDAX indices. Moreover, MDAX was enlarged from 50 to 60 constituents and SDAX from 50 to 70.
  5. The indices are more clearly defined by the adjustments: TecDAX represents the tech companies that are the largest and have the highest order book turnover without restrictions. MDAX and SDAX are again broad Mid-Cap resp. Small-Cap indices across all industries.
  6. The changes are based on the results of a comprehensive market consultation conducted during spring and announced on 18 May.
