The stakeholder dialogue of Deutsche Börse Group

Summary of key stakeholders

stakeholder_en.jpg

We communicate with a variety of groups to help determine the expectations and needs of our stakeholders and to take the knowledge gained into consideration in decision-making processes as well as to help us in presenting our own standpoint. We want to participate more vigorously in stakeholder dialogues and to increasingly and more actively invite interest groups to exchanges of ideas.

Our business is based on the principle of sustainability. Sustainability is also the cornerstone of our corporate responsibility with its four main areas: employees, economy, environment and corporate citizenship. Continuous dialogue with our stakeholders is an important impetus for us and at the same time allows us to create added value for our stakeholders.

We have laid out below an overview of important stakeholders and their relationship to Deutsche Börse.

Employees and management

We feel a great deal of responsibility for our employees worldwide. At staff events and works council meetings, the Executive Board regularly provides information regarding the current state of the company and business opportunities. Our intranet is the main communication channel for the latest news, developments and changes. The printed, quarterly employee magazine, Xchange, and the monthly online magazine, XO, deal with interesting and informative topics regarding Deutsche Börse Group – both magazines regularly give employees the chance to make their voices heard in various sections. Our code of ethics ensures a work environment that focuses on equality, openness, fairness and sustainable business development. Many employees voluntarily join in the corporate responsibility projects we initiate and promote.

Shareholders, investors and analysts

We place great emphasis on an active and continual exchange with current and potential investors, financial analysts and rating agencies. We provide comprehensive information on business development in our annual general meeting, in the Investor Relations Portal, at analyst conferences and the interim reports as well as in the corporate report. We also have numerous face-to-face discussions with investors and analysts at international roadshows, conferences and individual meetings. In addition, Deutsche Börse hosts an annual investor day for professional investors from Germany and abroad.

Suppliers

Our company's suppliers are required to adhere to common international standards and specifications as stipulated in our 'supplier guidelines'. We also seek an exchange with our suppliers on various topics. In this way both we and our business partners benefit from this exchange of expertise. More on our procurement management.

Customers

We approach our customers' affairs in an open and solution-oriented manner. We offer our customers and business partners the opportunity to join diverse working committees and advisory bodies. We carry out discussions with our customers on significant developments, exchange experience and listen carefully to any requests or ideas they may have. Further information on advisory bodies can be found under customer governance.

Financial community

Deutsche Börse Group participates in numerous regional and globally active trade and economic organizations within the financial community. We thus maintain an intensive dialogue with representatives from business and politics. As a matter of priority, we strive to make our voice heard in matters of financial and economic policy and regulation.

Social organisations

A dialogue with social organisations on economic, cultural and social topics is especially relevant for Deutsche Börse Group. Our cooperation with these organisations strengthens trust in our company and encourages new ideas for social activities. Within its CR Guidelines, Deutsche Börse Group commits itself to fair, just and ethically-based collaboration with all of its partners. We provide information on our social commitment in our annual corporate responsibility report. More about our corporate citizenship.

Media

Dialogue with the media is important for two reasons: for one, Deutsche Börse is listed on the blue-chip indices Euro STOXX® and DAX® and is therefore in the public spotlight. Deutsche Börse also has a special position as a leading global infrastructure provider in the financial industry. This results in very frequent contact with the media. Our public relations policy is based on objective, professional and timely communication. More on our media relations services.

Political and legislative functions

With representative offices in Berlin and Brussels, Deutsche Börse Group has established presences at two centres of political decision-making. We are in constant active dialogue with political decision makers, exchange ideas and information with them on issues affecting the market, take positions on regulatory and legal requirements and contribute our practical experience of the capital markets to developments in financial market policy. Close cooperation with supervisory authorities is also maintained by our public committees like the Exchange Councils of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and Eurex Deutschland.

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs)

We increasingly seek contact to non-governmental organisations as well as interest groups from various sectors. Our hosting of the presentation event for the 'Carbon Disclosure Report 2009' is one example of our efforts in this area, as is our participation in the 'Wirtschafts.Initiative.Engagement' (business commitment initiative). A further example is PHINEO gAG, which, together with the Bertelsmann Foundation, we founded as principal shareholder. Phineo is a platform for investors in social projects who would like to make donation decisions on the basis of the effectiveness of charitable organisations.

As a signatory of the UN Global Compact, the observation of human rights is of particular importance to us.

Research and education

Deutsche Börse Group supports universities, schools and other educational facilities in Germany and abroad with both their material and non-material needs. We support institutions of higher education in the Frankfurt area as well as programmes with a focus on finance and capital markets at universities in Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the USA – employees up to Executive Board level share their knowledge and experience with these educational institutes. Deutsche Börse is thus building a bridge between academic teachings and company practice. More on our educational commitment and training offered by our Capital Markets Academy.
