Catalysts Coding Contest, April 2018

On 27 April 2018, coders in 40 locations met to compete in a coding contest. Deutsche Börse Group was a worldwide sponsor of the event and hosted the contest in Frankfurt at Goethe University. The name of the game was “asteroid detection”, which meant the participants had to work with a fictitious data set from 2031 to detect asteroids moving in a dangerous orbit. With only four hours to accomplish that, the participants got to work immediately with intense focus and highly motivated.

Andreas Preuss, member of the Executive Board and CIO of Deutsche Börse Group, took advantage of the following well-deserved break to welcome all participants:

“We have been looking forward to this exciting event which offers a platform for talented developers to showcase their skills and connect with the financial industry.”

And then, finally, the awards ceremony. “This is already our third time taking part in this contest – but this one was really hard,” some of the participants said. However, the “best of the best” were rewarded with an entry in the Catalysts Hall of Fame and cool prizes.
