Introducing a real-life example for the use of Quantum

Deutsche Börse Group started looking into quantum computing a few years ago, focusing on exploring the future relevance of quantum based on an example from enterprise risk management. As quantum processing units (QPUs) including quantum annealers continued to progress, we have now investigated a practical real-life example.

Together with TH Brandenburg, we chose a use case of business relevance that shows how quantum can be usefully applied today. We developed an extension to classical portfolio optimisation theory that helps ESG-aware investors to find their optimal portfolio on a quantum annealer. In our example, we use ESG rating data from ISS ESG.
